Ghost
2010.08.19

I saw something out of the corner of my eye one day and I thought it was Livia, my daughter. It turns out that it was a trick of the eyes, she wasn't there; however, it sparked a dark and dreadful thought: one day my children would be grown and the beautiful, innocent little faces and voices that I love would be gone forever except in the photographs I've taken of them and in my memories. Even now I try to remember things about when they were first born and I can't, the memories are torn and incomplete. This song is my remorse knowing that the children I know and love now will be but ghosts in the future that will haunt me forever. This is a dialogue with a figment of my imagination and a longing to hold onto something that cannot be kept. The worst of it is that the passing of years that create these ghosts also destroy my memory of them; the more I want to remember and embrace them the less I am able to do so.

Ghost

Your ghost is beautiful as it moves across the room
You're just a memory perfectly misleading me
Just a dream

Your face is beautiful; your ways are beautiful too
You're just a mystery, the way you are part of me
And I am part of you

It's just as I feared
Your face is fading and I am still standing here
I want to hold you again but my hands pass through
A picture is all that remains for me of you

Your voice is beautiful as it moves to fill the room
You're just a melody, so perfect and haunting me
Just a dream

It's just as I feared
Your face is fading I and I am still standing here
I want to hold you again but my hands pass through
A picture is all that remains for me of you

It's just as I feared
Your voice is fading and I am still standing here
As if I could hear you again but the sounds withdraw
Like the face of the ghost that I thought I saw in you

Writing Hiatus
2008.02.18

I've been on hiatus from writing due to many factors; particularly, the holidays, sickness, and pressing matters from work and family have trumped any attempts to create actual music. However, I do have a catalog of new songs that I will be recording over the next few months. That being said, I intend to release an EP this Fall. Some of the lyrics to the songs that I am currently finishing can be found on the lyrics page.

Current Interests :

Scrubs reruns, The Emerson Letters, my children's imaginations, and the Council at Hippo [historical publication of New Testament canon].

New Year / Old Lives
2006.12.30

Isn't it weird how just a few years ago we were anxious about the advent of Y2K? I can remember all of the extremist views concerning the doomsday nature of that impending date; now it all seems quite comical in retrospect. Yet only a day away is the advent of another year. Strange how one day influences us to look back over the course of a year in an attempt to digest all of the ups and downs, the victories and defeats, in one huge bite. Some of us may look back and say that it was a good year; others may say quite the opposite. However, we often must approach each new year with this attitude:

I am leaving it all behind.
